Apple, We’re Not All Idiots

Apple, Inc. seems to think that because people flocked to their marketing hype of how easy to use Apple computers are, that means we’re idiots. Afterall, that’s what was said of those who flocked to AOL because it was easy - that those who used AOL were too much of an idiot to figure out how to use a computer.  Apple  proved what they think of their customers with the unwanted push of their browser software, listing Safari as an “update” regardless of whether you had it installed or not. It defaults to being checked, so you have to uncheck it in order to get your real updates and not install their browser. For windows machines, they neglected to include an option to prevent it from showing up on future updates, so every time you get an update, you have to remember to uncheck the Safari update. I guess they think everyone is idiot enough to just blindly install their software.

According to wired, Apple answered the criticism by marking Safari as a separate program rather than as an update, but nothing else changed. It is still checked by default, and there is still no way on the Windows version of iTunes to stop it from trying to force you into installing their unsecure browser.

When the Safari “updates” first started showing up last week, I turned off updates thinking that soon Apple would have a fix out. Boy, was I wrong! I’m off to uninstall iTunes and start reading reviews on podcatching software for Windows.
