MicroBooHoo

Rumors of Microhoo have been greatly exaggerated.  After months of Microsoft negotiating in good faith and Yahoo grasping at every straw possible to keep Microsoft away, the negotiations are over.  Last week Microsoft’s deadline for Yahoo to come to an agreement passed in silence.  On Friday, Microsoft raised their offer, but it was still $4 per share less than what Yahoo wanted.  So Microsoft walked away.

I gotta tell you, MIcrosoft would be crazy to go after Yahoo via proxy votes. It is obvious the people that work there now do not want to work for Microsoft, which means the talent they want from Yahoo would not come as part of the deal.  I don’t think it would be good for Yahoo either.  Microsoft would take the pieces they want and try to fit them into their ‘live’ model.  In typical Microsoft fashion, they’ll try and do it by comittee, and it will wind up being a jumbled mess. It will just wind up being too little too late, and the good things that Yahoo does do will get skewered.
