God Bless the USA
This song always gives me chills when I hear it. It’s a recent song, but has become one of my favorites. Many thanks to Lee Greenwood for writing and performing it.
GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.
In history I’ve learned about so many countries where…
People lost their right to freedom…
The blessings you and I all share.
I thank my lucky stars to be a livin’ here today,
‘Cause our flag still stands for freedom
And they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American …where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died…who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up; next to you…and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land…God bless the USA!
From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee…
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA..
There’s pride in every American heart…and it’s time to stand and say…
That I’m proud to be an American …where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died…who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up; next to you…and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land…God bless the USA!
I’m proud to be an American …where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died…who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up; next to you…and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land…God bless the USA!
Fifty Nifty United States
Since it is the 4th of July weekend and I’m feeling a bit patriotic, I thought I’d post some lyrics to patriotic songs I sang while growing up. This was one of my favorites as I also learned the names of all the states in Alphabetic order.
Fifty Nifty United States
Fifty nifty united states from thirteen original colonies.
Fifty nifty stars in the flag that billows so beautifully in the breeze.
Each individual state has a quality that is great.
Each individual state deserves a bow.
Let’s salute them now.
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas
California, Colorodo, Conneticut.
Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii

Cotton Needs-a-Pickin’
We used to sing this song in the car while driving through Georgia and Alabama. Typically, someone spotting a cotton field would start it.
Cotton Needs a Pickin’
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
I’m gonna pick all over this field.
Planted this cotton in April
On the full of the moon
We’ve had a hot, dry summer
And that’s why it opened so soon. Oh!
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
I’m gonna pick all over this field.
Cool Finds in Google Earth
There’s some pretty cool things you can see from a satellite view that you’d never see from the ground. You can see them yourself in Google Earth. Here’s a couple of them.

If you really want to experience the crop circles in style, try the flight simulator. You need to be on a current version of Google earth. Press CTRL+ALT+A to start it. I understand it also works on a Mac using the command key.
Chase Freedom Plus World Card Part Deux
I got my first rewards based on my new Chase Freedom Plus world card. The basics of the plus are that I earn 3% cash back on 6 categories instead of 3, there’s no limit to the bonus cash back rewards earned, and some other things such as rewards not expiring. On the downside, there is a $30 annual fee in order to get the unlimited bonus.
I sifted through my bill and tried to pick out all the categories. Chase doesn’t label them, and they also state that it depends on what category the company itself reports for the potential bonus, so the only thing to do is go through and guess what was labeled as what category. I had the added difficulty of not really knowing if the bonus applied for the entire billing cycle or not. So it came down to questions such as, is it Zaxby’s or Waffle House listed as the quick service restaurant? After an hour of trying different combinations at 1% and 3%, I did get my total to within a penny, but was still off a bit on how much was bonus and how much wasn’t.
I did get it down to what I really needed to know. Was the card change worth it? Here’s the basic facts:
Do Your Ears Hang Low?
This is another song we sang as kids. I remember them from YMCA day camp and the catchy tune makes it a favorite earworm. The children’s song was adapted from Turkey in the Straw, written in the 1800s. There have been many rewritings of the lyrics, including some that are not G rated. We only sang the first verse. I found the rest posted on the Internet and included them here.
